Palm Springs Travel Guide

Palm Springs Travel Guide

Palm Springs…. the land of the cactus, dry desert heat, chilled cocktails and some of the best Mexican food around. Sounds like paradise eh? Today I am going to talk about my love for PS and all the hot spots you need to visit!

This post is way too overdue, I was in Palm Springs in June this year and I absolutely fell in love with it! If you haven’t been, I know you will too! There are some sights to see in PS of course, but I would say it is primarily a relaxation and fun vacay. Perfect if you want to just chill out, catch some sun and sip on delicious cocktails poolside.

My fiancé had a work conference there and I was lucky enough to go along, we had a few days to explore together and have fun but mostly I was on my own in the day which was perfectttt for relaxing and switching off.

I will run through our hotel, places I recommend visiting and eating so when you visit PS you can spend less time searching for these things and more time enjoying!

We stayed at La Quinta Resort & Club and although that is slightly out of the main part of Palm Springs I actually preferred that. It depends what you are looking for out of your vacation but if you aren’t too fussed about being amongst the hustle and bustle then this is the perfect hotel for you!

The grounds are absolutely spectacular and perfectly manicured. It is HUGE and you will enjoy getting lost on the grounds as every corner is stunning. There are waterfalls with chairs close by so you can enjoy your morning coffee, there are plenty of grassed areas to relax on, a choice of restaurants and bars to dine in, as well as some shops if you feel like spending some $$. There was a cute little store/cafe I would go to every morning, get my iced coffee because lets be real it’s too damn hot there to not have every drink icy cold. I would get a sneaky pastry on the side and enjoy it somewhere on the resort grounds (if only I could start every day like this) ha!

As the resort is very large there are a choice of different room types or villas (some with their own private pools). We stayed in a Deluxe Casita that literally opened out on to a pool shared by us and about 8 other villas so it is amazing because the pool was usually very quiet and I had it to myself a lot of the time. There is also an adults only pool on the grounds as well as a min pool with music, food service, bar etc if you prefer a more lively scene. With 41 pools around the resort there is something for everyone. They make a mean cocktail and believe me with the whole week there I tried just about the whole menu :p

I enjoyed Twenty6 for lunches they do some delicious salads etc and for great Mexican food there is Adobe Grill where you can overlook the evening sunset sky while sipping on a very large margarita. These are just two of the restaurants but they were my personal faves.

There is a huge golf course on the grounds so if you are your partner are golf fans this is perfect for you. With a gorgeous spa you can relax with a facial or massage. There is something for everyone.

The staff at this resort were so friendly & helpful, no task was too big and I would highly highly recommend staying here! Waking up to a view like this with mountains in the background, you will feel like you are in a remote paradise, who could say no to that?!

Instagramable Spots

Of course number 1 on the list is “That Pink Door” – you know the one you’ve seen all over Instagram? Pastel pink goodness on a perfect white house with desert plants out the front?! Yassss that one! It even has its own insta account LOL. I’m just going to get straight to the point and give you the address: 1100 E Sierra Way, Palm Springs

The day we went there was nobody else there, so it was perfect for getting some snaps! Honestly I wanted to move in, such a cool street. If I lived in PS that would definitely be my humble abode.

I know you can hire bikes in town, I think this would be such a cute way to get around and see some of the awesome architecture, just be mindful of the heat you definitely want to get an early start.

Number 2 is The Saguaro Hotel, I’m going to be honest and say I probably wouldn’t want to stay here it’s more of a party hotel so by all means if you love huge pool parties then this would be perfect. However I have heard the Mexican restaurant there is fab and this is definitely the place to get some amazingggg insta worthy shots. The whole place is a mix of vibrant colours and palm trees. It makes for a very fun photo shoot!

Number 3 would be the hotel we stayed at – La Quinta. As mentioned it was so picturesque. Mountains, tall palm trees, luscious flowers, pretty lights at night. Just gorgeous!

Number 4 is the Parker Hotel. I am going to talk about this in eats because the food there was on point but in terms of insta worthy spots this is the place you need to be! I would also LOVE to stay there one day because the rooms look incredible but we visited for brunch and got the chance to explore the grounds a little.

From the moment you pull up to this beauty you are greeted by one hell of an entrance. It is big, it is grand and you will want to start snapping as soon as you get there! A huge white exterior with those famous orange double doors, uber modern, uber edgy this place has got it going on.

The lobby doesn’t even look like a lobby it is more like the cozy living room of that super trendy friend of yours that has a bunch of eclectic furniture and decor that all just works so perfectly together! Head up the stairs to view more of the Jonathan Adler decor heaven, the famous lip prints lining the stairs. Everywhere you look you will want to snap a pic of.

Once you make your way outside it just keeps going. Luscious greenery will have you feeling like you are in the middle of nowhere, so peaceful and pretty. Giant chess games, hammocks to recline in, a lemonade stand to boot and much more. You will never want to leave!

Mexican – You will be spoilt for choice with Mexican cuisine in PS but if you eat any please please go to Las Casuelas Terraza it is on the main street in Palm Springs town centre. We just stumbled upon it and boy am I glad we did. Fresh and authentic food! Cocktails for cold and delicious and the food was too good for words. Their Guacamole was everythinggggggg and their mail meals were mouth watering. We were seated in a gorgeous booth for 2 with art work and mexican decor on the walls. You got to enjoy being outside while still being covered from the elements. Seriously do yourself a favour and get here, I’m drooling just thinking about it now!!

Brunch – As I touched on before we went to the Parker Palm Springs and had brunch at the amazingggg Norma’s. WOW JUST WOW! You don’t want to be counting your calories at this place, trust! We both decided to go for sweet breakfast options but don’t worry if that’s not your thing there are plenty of savoury options too. I had the banana pancakes and Mike had the chocolate french toast. Holyyyyyyyy! I was in a sugar coma afterwards but it was so worth it!

There were so many other amazing food options which we just didn’t get to try as we were staying a little out of the main part of PS. However I have heard from many people that the following are must eat at places.

  • Farm – Great brunch menu
  • Tyler’s Burgers – Don’t think this needs much explaining
  • El Jefe – Unique mexican food
  • Great Shakes – Milkshakes on steroids (includes mini doughnuts on the top)

So there you have it, my quick and easy guide to Palm Springs. I hope you enjoyed and get to see Palm Springs for yourself soon!

Happy Travels!
